About OAK Community Development

OAK Community Development is a not-for-profit organisation; its roots are from a local grass roots community organisation-the Oak Project which was first established in 1998 and then reconstituted after the racial troubles of 2001. We have since developed into a specialist agency working on initiatives that impact particularly on the Muslim, BME and faith sector.

The growing and persistent problems of social exclusion, lower educational achievement, high unemployment, inequalities in health, community disharmony and increase in crime amongst the Muslim and BME community meant a need for a more focused organisation which had the skills, knowledge and expertise to address the issues at hand and provide support to other groups and organisations working to better the lives of their communities.
